This is a wuick breakdown of how we built the website for our latest client, dr. Hajrudin Ahmetović, an Islamic teacher.
Creating a website for an Islamic teacher requires a thoughtful approach to design and functionality. At Synergy Design, we recently had the privilege of designing a website for Dr. Hajrudin Ahmetović, a respected Islamic teacher, using WordPress and PHP. Choosing the Foundation: WP-Cast Theme
For this project, we selected the WP-Cast WordPress theme as our starting point. This theme is specifically designed for audio-based websites, making it an excellent choice for Dr. Ahmetović’s needs. However, some of the desired functionalities were missing, so we enhanced the theme by incorporating custom PHP and extensive theme editing to tailor it to his unique requirements.
Key Features Implemented
1. Audio Lectures: Listening and Downloading
Dr. Ahmetović’s website includes a robust audio lecture section where users can:
- Stream lectures directly from the website.
- Download lectures for offline listening.
To achieve this, we extended WP-Cast’s native audio functionality by modifying its PHP files. We implemented custom download links for each audio file, ensuring smooth accessibility while maintaining optimal server performance.
2. Lecture Categories
We organized the audio lectures into clear categories, allowing users to easily navigate through topics. Custom taxonomy was created in PHP to ensure that categories were seamlessly integrated with the theme’s design. This categorization helps visitors quickly find lectures relevant to their interests.
3. Events Calendar Integration
To display Dr. Ahmetović’s upcoming lessons and events, we embedded a calendar from Tockify.com. The embedded calendar matches the overall site design and offers:
- Interactive features, such as filtering events by location.
- Mobile responsiveness for users on the go.
This integration required fine-tuning the calendar’s embed code and custom CSS to align with the website’s visual style.
4. News Page
A dedicated news page keeps visitors informed about Dr. Ahmetović’s latest updates and activities. Using the WordPress block editor, we crafted a user-friendly layout that Dr. Ahmetović can easily update himself. This feature ensures that his followers are always up to date.
5. Articles Page
The articles page serves as a repository for Dr. Ahmetović’s Islamic articles. We used the default WordPress blogging functionality but enhanced it with custom styling and additional metadata fields to highlight the importance of each article.
6. Biography Page
To introduce Dr. Ahmetović and his work, we designed a comprehensive biography page. This section showcases his background, achievements, and mission. We used custom PHP to create an elegant, responsive layout that integrates seamlessly with the rest of the site.
7. Social Media Links
Links to Dr. Ahmetović’s social media platforms are prominently displayed across the website. These links ensure that visitors can easily follow his activities on other platforms.
The Role of Custom PHP
While WP-Cast provided a solid foundation, we used custom PHP to bridge the gaps. Here are some examples:
- Adding custom post types and taxonomies for lecture categories.
- Extending the audio player’s capabilities to include download links.
- Enhancing the visual and functional elements of the theme to align with Dr. Ahmetović’s requirements.
